During the 1930s, the inception of Cone Penetration Testing involved manually pushing a mechanical cone into the soil using CPT tubes. The subsequent readings were recorded manually by the CPT operator. Though electrical CPT has largely replaced this approach, mechanical CPT remains in use due to its simplicity, robustness, and cost-effectiveness.
